Winter at The Wave

Once we had permits in hand our plan was for April and I to take our 2month old baby down to Kanab and Page for a weekend of hiking, photos, and hotels.  The weather in the area had been fantastic for the days leading up to our trip but there was a huge plunge in the temperature on the days allotted to us  by our permits.  It was going to be far too cold take the baby out hiking so April stayed home while Whitney and I made the drive down to Kanab and pulled into our hotel just as the snow started to fall.    I never sleep well in hotels so I tossed and turned for most of the night dreaming about shooting some photos of the wave.

Not much snow accumulated in Kanab that night but  we were a little worried about the conditions of the House Rock Valley Road so we checked out of the hotel well before sunrise and headed off towards the wave.  The further east we traveled the snow storm increased its production. (more…)

Escalante 10.2011

With the new baby arriving soon (but not too soon) we decided to make one last desert backpacking trip before the little guy arrived. For this trip it was just Clint, Whitney, Lanik, and I who tossed around a few different ideas in the days prior and finally settled on a return trip to Willow Gulch.

Our trip started out by Clint picking Lanik and I up at my place in his Tacoma. This was my second trip in the new truck this year and I must admit that I’m pretty jealous… I think I need one but without the payment. We then stopped by my parents house to grab Whitney and load up on firewood (thanks mom) then headed south to Escalante. (more…)
