The Needles 3.2011

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Every March we head down south for our first family camping trip of the years with the kids.  This year the weather looked a bit cold and windy (this seems to be a recent theme for all of our  trips) but we left home with high hopes of running into some decent weather.   We arrived in the early afternoon and set up camp in a cool site near Indian Creek on the Lockhart road.  The wind was blowing  so hard we had to weigh our tents down with heavy rocks to keep them from blowing away.   After camp was tethered down nice and solid we drove into The Needles to do some of the shorter hikes around the park like Cave Springs, Pothole point, and the Slick Rock trails.

Arches/Isky12.2010

On the day after Christmas we made a quick cold trip down to Moab to do a few little hikes and enjoy the winter solitude in Arches and Canyonlands. We got an early start on the day and made it to the Tusher Tunnel trail head by noon. The tunnel itself was not much of a hike but definitely a unique feature worth exploring.

We then drove into Arches and worked our way around the park before hiking up to Delicate for sunset.

Arches10-2010

Last week while April was out of town the boys, Whitney, and I made a trip down to the Moab area to do some hiking and camping. We did not leave Orem until 4pm and the with construction delays on I-15 we ended up setting up camp just outside of Island in the Sky in the Dark. We got the boys settled in the tent, made a small fire and shot plenty of long exposures of the desert sky.
