Last week Nick and I made a quick hike up to Red Pine Lake in Little Cottonwood Canyon. All of the trail was clear aside for the last half mile before the lake where we encountered 4-5′ snow drifts. We made it to the lake just in time to get a few photos before the shadows moved in. It’s such an awesome location I look forward to coming back soon to do some backpacking and summit the Pfeifferhorn.

The next day I got together with Spencer for another after work hike to the higher tiers of Upper Falls in Provo Canyon.  Getting above the lower falls ended up being a lot more work than I remembered.  I want to go back and explore the Upper Falls areas within the next few weeks but next time I will be better prepared with some climbing gear.

Its mid may and the spring run off has yet to peak so I have been sticking close to home doing a few shorter lower elevation hikes to pass the time.

5.8.2010 I got up early and hiked Squaw Peak with Pete, The snow pack was still pretty deep at 7000′ + and the creek was hardly flowing. On the way up  Rock Canyon was full of backpackers and on the way down it was full of hikers and climbers.

5.9.2010 Bowen (3yo) and I parked at Sundance and hiked up to Stewart Falls. Again not much run off in his area and the falls were still a trickle.

5.12.2010  I tried to beat the rain and hike up Lost Creek in Provo Canyon when the creek was pretty ferocious.  I made it up into the choke point then turned around with no photos due to the constant rain and snow but I will be back soon.

5.14.2010  Clint drove down to met up with Lanik  and I to do a quick overnight backpacking trip up South Fork.  We parked at the trail head and hiked a little over 1 mile up the trail and set up camp. We wandered around Big Springs shooting photos with what little daylight we had left.

That night the clouds broke up and we were able to shoot some star trails.

5.16.2010  We made a quick hike up beyond Aspen Grove on the backside of Timpanogos where  I got some cool  photos of a sun halo over Elk Point.
