Tomales Point
After warming up at Chimney Rock we left the Tomales Point trail head at 3:50PM. There was a herd of 20+ Tule Elk sitting near at the trail head as we got started on the 9.4 mile out and back hike to the point.
Thats right… Josh was rocking the pearl snaps.

Within the first half mile of the trail you get your first of countless views of the Point Reyes coast.

Just after the first mile of the hike the park service had set up some spotting scopes for the public to view the rutting Tule Elk from a safe distance.

We had quite a few Elk encounters between the Elk pond and the point.

At 4.5 miles we were almost to the edge of Tomales Point.

We arrived at the Point @ 5:35 pm.
Kendall and Ronald running down the last few feet of the trail.

Josh and Ronald enjoying the view.

Looking South from Tomales Point HDR

Looking North from Tomales Point HDR, that is Bodega Bay in the distance.

The karate kids of Tomales Point.

The only photo of me … thanks Josh.

The sky was getting dark as we started to hike back to the car at 06:30pm. We encountered even more Elk on the trail on the way back, here is a herd just of the side trail.

More Elk near the Windy Gap and the Elk pond, keep in mind I only used a lens with a 50mm zoom (that means the elk were really close).

Josh, Ronald, and Kendall checking out the Elk herd.

Looking down at McClures Beach.

A quick break with less then a mile to go.

One last HDR shot of Tomales Point

We made it back to the car around 8:30pm, so we did the hike in 5 hours round trip with a hour break at the point. We ate some food the hiked the down to McClures Beach in the dark and took a few photos.

After McClures we back to the car and headed back to Sacramento, It was an awesome day in Point Reyes. Thanks to Josh for coming along and providing some excellent snacks and limeade. Special thanks to Ronni for letting us drive her supper sweet car to Point Reyes.
