Maple Canyon
We were first introduced to Maple Canyon around 1998 by Clint who had grown up in the area and had already spent quite a bit of time running around Maple. After our first trip it instantly became our go to local camping spot. Its only one hour south of Utah Country so it was very accessible for short weekend trips of climbing, hiking, rappelling, and camping. At one point April and I spent 13 weekends in row at Maple, in those days we never bothered to bring a camera.
In recent years Maple Canyon has been discovered and without online reservations it can seem impossible to get a campsite in the campground during that summer. There is even a day use fee of 3 dollars…. Pretty sad to see this considering we used to be able to pull into the campground at 9pm on a Friday night and have our pick of campsites. Good news is there are some good campsites above the main canyon (above the big switchbacks) but I would suggest a HCV to get up there.
