Chirstmas 2008 December 29, 2008 at 4:13 pm

I spent quite a bit of time tooling around on my days off taking photos.
First shot of the weekend was after snowboarding at Sundance. I pulled off the road and took this shot of the Montero.

Christmas Eve I drove around Vineyard and Utah Lake.

Settling down for the winter.

Christmas day I found cool areas around Aprils parents house in West Haven. I bet there is a lot of great stuff to shoot around Ogden Bay.

Utah Lake Sunset December 15, 2008 at 10:35 am

To mix things up a bit I spent Friday and Sunday evenings shooting around Utah Lake. I found some nice things to shot and some great reflection angles of both Timpanogos and Cascade Mountains. I am going to make and effort to spend more time this winter searching for good locations around Utah lake.

California December 2008 December 11, 2008 at 12:02 pm

We just got back from our week long trip to Sacramento, First photo stop (this is a photo journal) of the trip was Donner Lake. I had driven past Donner Lake dozens of times but this was the first time we actually stopped. The kids had fun tossing rocks into the lake while we stretched our legs for a bit before we headed down the sierras to SacTown.

The next day we made a trip to the California Train Museum. Such an awesome place, the kids obviously had a ball checking out the trains and of course the huge Thomas the Train set was that biggest hit of the day.

My HDR shots did not turn out well due to low light and lack of a tripod but a few turned out ok.

A few days later we made a trip down to the Bay Area and Traveled along Highway 1. The first stop on our day trip was Muir Woods.

Next we headed north to Bolinas to spend the afternoon at Agate Beach. Excellent tide pools that were very kid friendly.

After we spent the bulk of our afternoon on Agate beach we packed up and drove south along highway 1 to Muir Beach. We made it just in time for the sunset.

Awesome sunset and a pretty fun day.
On our last day in town we spent a big of time walking along the river trail near Downtown. I took a few HDR shots but it was getting cold and we had other plans for the evening.

Solo at the Temple December 1, 2008 at 12:16 pm

I had the option to pick up some extra hours at work on the Friday after Thanksgiving while April and Kids went up to her parents house. It rained off and on during the day so I was skeptical of how the weather would work out, to make matters worse Randy canceled due to a case of food poisoning. After work I drove alone towards the temple and things really started clear up the sky was near perfect. Mud was was full effect while I hiked out to the waters edge. I slowly wandered my way to shot some reflection shots of the sunset.

and I took some of Laniks Star Wars toys with me.

Final Trip in the Swell November 25, 2008 at 11:27 pm

Clint and I decided to make one last trip down to the swell for 2008. We left Orem early Friday morning and head up Spanish Fork Canyon, After getting gas in Wellington turn off highway 6 to fine the large concretions in the The Mounds area.

I tired my best to look cool but failed.

Next stop was Black Dragon Canyon. I had been to this canyon quite a few times over the years but had never heard of a cave until I read this recent post by coinslab. Directions were provided and we found it with no problems at all and It was rather shocking to see how close this collapsed alclove was to the main panel.

The entrance is in the center of this photo at the base of the large wall.

We wrapped things up in Black Dragon and drove south on the dirt roads along the San Rafael Reef towards Uneva Canyon. We spotted this huge Mountain Bike kicker off the side of the road that has been in quite a few videos such as New World Disorder 7.

After driving up the rough 4×4 road we arrived at the mouth of Uneva Canyon. We hiked up aways to check out the old abandon Uneva Mine. Uneva was very short but very interesting.

We spent about 2 hours exploring Uneva and soaking in the excellent views of the reef from the parking area. We still had a bit of daylight left so we made a quick trip out to near by Three Fingers Canyon. This is great canyon for rock art but other then that I was not very impressed. There was some neat little potholes filled with water and I tired to get some reflection shots but no of them really worked out.

The sun was setting and the clouds did not work out very well so we failed to get any decent sunset photos. We set up camp at Uneva and spent the night taking photos of stars before it got too cold and we called it a night.

Temp dropped into the 20’s during the night but we woke up to spectacular light on the San Rafael Reef. Took a bit of time to take some photos while packing up camp and a few more from the road on the way out.

We drove back to Green River to top off the tank and ate some pancakes and eggs. Soon we were back on I-70 heading up little Spotted Wolf Canyon to the Buckhorn Wash road. We made our next stop in the San Rafael river area to take photos of Assembly Hall and the old swinging bridge.

Next we drove down the Mexican Mountain road to the Upper Black Box Trail head. We hiked out a little over 1.5 miles and took a peak over the rim of the canyon to check out he river below.

After our short hike we traveled up BuckHorn wash towards the Wedge Overlook. We made a quick stop to check out the Dinosaur foot print off the side of the road.

Our final stop of our trip was the Wedge Overlook, there was only one other person with her dog at the Wedge. We hung out for a bit took some photos and watched a herd of 9 big horn sheep wander around the lower terrace of the Wedge before we headed home.
