Swell 9.2011

There is no reason not to have a plan B or even a plan C when camping in the desert. Our plan A was shot down and soon after plan B was gone as well.


After work we packed up and hit the road around 4 and headed up Spanish Fork canyon towards the swell. The original plan was to drive down to the San Rafael Desert to hike Moonshine, Colonade Arch, and Horseshoe Canyon then head to Goblin Valley to our reserved campsite for some showers and time in the goblins. Unitas/Joes Valley 2011

As we got closer to Aprils due date we made a few shorter trips close to home. Not much hiking on these trips but we all find it nice to be able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the views from time to time.

Labor day weekend we made a last minute trip up to the Uintas where as expected there were people everywhere. We drove up a 4×4 road to Broadhead Meadows and found a great private campsite on the edge of the meadow. We spent the afternoon wandering around the Meadow and I shot a few star trails that night. The stream a few yards from our site was smooth and calm so I was able to catch the reflection of the stars in the water. (more…)

Emerald Lake 8-2011

I have been following the trail reports all summer on the TERT site anxiously awaiting for the snow to melt so I can do my favorite hike in Northern Utah. I look forward to climbing up Timp every year. The alpine valleys, cirques, mountains, goats and the glacier always make the busy trail worth doing at least once every year.

I started out on a Wednesday at 5pm and for the first time decided to hike up the Timpooneke trail, I could not believe what I had been missing, The trail is a bit longer but is much more gradual than the Aspen Grove trail. I passed a half dozen hikers on the way up none of which had made it to the summit. (more…)
